MELROSE

THE HOME OF SIR WALTER SCOTT

In this tour we visit the Border town of Melrose with its historic Abbey founded by David 1 of Scotland in 1136.

We then visit Abbotsford house the former home of the famous poet and historian Sir Walter Scott. 
After that we go on to the town of Jedburgh with its 12 th century Augustinian Abbey now in the hands of Historic Scotland.

If there is time we can visit the holy island of Lindisfarne, an important island for Celtic history for centuries.

This is time and sea tides permitting.

There is also the option of seeing Thirlestane Castle, a fantastic 16th century castle which is still home to the

Duke of Lauderdale.
